As well as photography we specialise in retouching, and often get asked to see what we can do with old and damaged photos in need of a little TLC.
A few months ago we had a more unusual request from someone with an oil painting that had been very badly fire damaged. It was a sentimental piece of art for them as it depicted a much loved family dog, and so they contacted us to see if there was anything we could do in terms of retouching so they could have it reprinted. They supplied us with a high resolution photograph of the painting which revealed the full extent of the bubbling and blisters it had endured. Without an image to reference what it looked like before we set to work trying to piece it back together and virtually repaint the painting!
Luckily the dog wasn't too badly affected in comparison to other areas of the image where there was practically no information left. We had to rely on a lot of guesswork and artistic licence to determine what might originally have been there. Although it was impossible to restore the image to it's former glory we were pleased to be able transform it into something special to hang on the wall again.
